Next dham in the tour is Kedarnath situated in the Uttar Kashi district of Uttaranchal. The Kedarnath Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is located on the Garhwal Himalayan range. Traveling to this temple is extremely difficult and not for the faint hearted. As weather conditions are extreme here, it remains open only between end of April and November. The temple is one of the 12 jyotirlingas in India and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks. Also visit Gauri Kund temple dedicated to Gauri, the wife of Lord Shiva. Other popular sites in close proximity to Kedarnath are Madmaheshwar, Tungnath, Rudranath and Kapleshwar. Next destination of the Chardham Yatra is Gangotri cuddled by the magnificent Garhwal hills. Situated at an altitude of 3048 meters above sea level, Gangotri is very near the Indo-Tibetan border. The main attraction here is a 20-feet high structure made of white granite. Jalamagna Shivling, a natural rock Shivling, here is also a must visit. It is believed that it was here where Shiva gave way to Ganga through his locks. Yamunotri is the next destination of the Chardham Yatra located in the Uttarkashi district of Uttaranchal. The Yamunotri Temple here is dedicated to the river Yamuna. Also visit the Surya Kund renowned for its thermal springs. Every pilgrim before entering the main temple worships Divya Shilla, a rock pillar.
